The Viral NanoCloth Scratch Remover: Fixes It or Fakes It?

This is the first video in a new lane for the channel: instead of fixing something of our own, we're testing a product everyone's been talking about and giving it an honest verdict — no sponsorship, no script from the brand. In fact this company is what you might consider "shady". It did not start off very well with them.

The Viral Claim

The pitch behind this one is simple enough to go viral: rub the cloth on, rub it off, and a scratch in your clear coat disappears. No sanding, no compound, no trip to a body shop — just a cloth and some elbow grease. Claims that clean almost always deserve a skeptical test before you trust them with your own car.

My Not So Great Experience

In fact this company came across as what you might consider: less then reputable. It did not start off very well with them. I clicked on an ad on YouTube for this product. And it seemed like a good deal for $15 and was worth a try. The checkout process was quick and very straightforward with lots of large images claiming $15 only. So I said what the heck bye went through PayPal and completed the process quickly without thinking too much about it. I know it's a stupid thing to do on the Internet, but we've gotten lazy buying things online so… I quickly got an email with my receipt and it was $140!

Well, I was a bit shocked and not too happy. So I immediately clicked on their support tab and gave them all the information from the email (order #, etc)l and I said cancel this order immediately. This was within about five minutes of placing the actual order. So this should've been a slam dunk obviously mistake by some half senile old guy – refund…Now. And I did get a message back pretty quickly saying “we will process this for you”. About several days went by and no word from the company yet so after about a week, I sent them another email asking what the status was. Where is my refund? I haven't seen anything yet, yada yada yada.

A month goes by and I reached out a few times and I got no response back so I just assumed they were gonna take my money and forget about me. I reached out to PayPal and started a dispute process with them. I uploaded my receipt, the email, the timeline and let them know that I did not get any response. A few days later PayPal sent me a message saying they accepted my dispute and would reach out to the company. And wouldn't you know it, almost immediately after receiving that email from PayPal the company responded to me saying “we will process this for you”

Now this was the second or third time I've heard this from the company so I wasn't too convinced. After several more days, I got an email saying that my PayPal account was refunded. I was very happy about that because this company was making me nervous. I was glad not to have been scammed. And wouldn’t you know it, a day or two later, I actually got the product. So I essentially got some of these things for free. But if you read on or watch the video, you'll see what the real value of this product actually is.

Putting It to the Test

We have several cars since there are four of us. Some decent ones and some not so decent ones. So we have lots of test subjects to work with. Not to mention we have two kids and most of the cars grew up with the kids. That's a clever way of saying we got a lot of freaking scratches on our cars. So there were plenty of things to test with. I decided to start with my car, of course, because it's probably the nicest still. Not because I take good care of it, but because it's not the family car that we use every day. You do not want to see the inside of the family car!

The instructions were about as straightforward as it comes – three steps. Step one: wash the area around the scratch. Step two: gently rub the NanaCloth around the scratch area. Use firmer pressure for stubborn scratches. Step three: rinse with clean water and wipe dry. That's it. No waiting five minutes. No mixing of chemicals. Just rub it on and rub it off. Exactly what every ADD person in America needs – rub it on, rub it off, done. This is how they get suckers like me to buy stuff online. Make it stupid simple.

Is It a Scam? One Technique To Watch Out For

This is also how some companies scam people by the way. First they make everything seem super simple. And of course with incredible results. I mean, how can you resist? Amazing results with absolutely no effort. Sounds like every diet fad that ever came out since the 1970s. And the key is to get the pricing right. You see a lot of these companies, what they do is they price it low enough so that you don't wanna waste your time getting a refund. If you bought a package of these for $15, whether it worked or not, you're probably not gonna waste your time trying to get a refund. And so you throw it in the garbage or add it to the pile of other crap you bought that didn't quite work and never used.

I'm not saying this company was trying to scam me or anyone else. But I certainly felt like I got a bit of bait and switch and paid a lot more then I originally wanted to. I was nervous from the moment I got my $140 bill until I actually got my refund. But, like often happens, things worked out for the best.

I wanted to make sure to do some thorough testing on it since I almost paid $140 for it. The result of the various test may surprise you. I started with my car, which has a protective coating on it. Or at least it did about nine years ago when I bought the car. I also tried it on our 16 year-old minivan. So we have a good sample of cars and scratches that we tested with.
